Medical Care in Mexico – 2020 Update

Medical Care in Mexico – 2020 Update

Moving to Mexico and Feeling Great! When considering a move to Mexico, we are flooded with questions about the quality of life, weather, safety, housing costs, whether our high-school Spanish will do, where the nearest golf course is, etc. We are excited and full of happy anticipation as we contemplate a new lifestyle in a new country. We research and reach out to those who have gone before us through social networking. We are hungry for information, and so we devour articles and books and carefully plan to visit the places on our short list. Moving to Mexico is one of the most … [Read more...]

Getting Your Retiree Mexico Resident Visa

Getting Your Retiree Mexico Resident Visa

Once you are within no longer than six months of your proposed date to move to Mexico, the next step is to apply for either a temporary or permanent resident visa at the Mexican consulate nearest to you in your home country.  While the process may seem daunting at first, it is rather straightforward at most (but not all) Mexican consulates.  There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that some consulates are easier to deal with than others, and much like any other process involving government bureaucracy, patience and calm will help you navigate the visa process. Where to Stay While Exploring Lakeside

Where to Stay While Exploring Lakeside

When considering a move to Lakeside, one of the best methods to check out the area is to attend one of our week-long fast track learning seminars where you can make contacts, see various neighborhoods and learn in detail what it takes to make the move.  We recommend that if possible you stay in the area for a longer period of time either before or after the seminar to get a better feel for what location might best suit your lifestyle.  Here are a few suggestions of centrally located places to stay: A tried and true Ajijic favorite is La Nueva Posada owned by a long-term expat and his … [Read more...]

Focus on Pátzcuaro

Focus on Pátzcuaro

The month of May in Lakeside is hot (this year with temperatures often climbing to over 90F/32C). So we opted to explore the refreshingly cool high altitude city of Pátzcuaro, Michoacan, located about four hours south of Lakeside.  At 7,000 feet altitude Pátzcuaro has all the charm of a high mountain town surrounded with forests, a beautiful plaza and many coffee shops from which to choose.  With a population of ~80,000, Pátzcuaro is much quieter than nearby Morelia with its bustling population of ~800,000.  One plus of both Morelia and Pátzcuaro as compared to Lakeside are the flat city … [Read more...]
